The Fisheries Committee of the European Parliament held a public hearing on the new external dimension of the reformed Common Fisheries Policy, last 9th November 2015.

9th Nov 2015 – The session was divided in two panels, the first of which discussed about Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreements with particular focus on the evaluation of the benefits for the economy of the third countries with whom these partnership agreements are conducted, for the EU and for the EU fisheries sector. The second panel addressed rights and responsibilities of countries in the management of fisheries and fishing capacity.
The event was attended by the MEPs of the Fisheries Committee, the European Commission (DG MARE), representatives of the fisheries sector from the EU’s partners in fisheries, scientists and experts on fisheries. ANABAC-OPTUC had the opportunity participate by giving a presentation in the first panel.
The main conclusion all the attendants agreed on was that the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreements are working to extend the European standard of responsible and sustainable fishing worldwide, especially where it comes to in monitoring, control and surveillance (MCS) of the fishing activity. EU’s leadership in this field is raising the requirements for the fishing fleets of all around the world.
